Perhaps you fell in love with Colin Firth as a dashing Jane Austen suitor, buttoned up Bridget Jones barrister, or stuttering monarch.

That's all well and good, but did you know, Colin Firth was once a handsome young scamp who could slay the ladies with just a wink of an eye and a half smirk?

Oh, yes. Meet Young Colin Firth:

This is Colin in his first ever movie in 1984, Another Country.

He was then but a scrappy 24-year-old, fresh out of drama school and eager to perfect his craft opposite Rupert Everett in the historical drama about a 1930s British prep school. Colin went on to do a string of other very serious movies before landing his role as Mr Darcy in 1995's Pride and Prejudice. 

"As a young actor I must have been dull," the now 57-year-old told Express in 2015.

Au contraire, Colin.

But after doing a string of period pieces, Colin says he was eager to shake up his "stuffy" image.

"I was tempted to get into and do some sort of silly stuff," he told Movieline. "Like the fight in Bridget Jones! And good silly stuff. Things like Mamma Mia. You just get out, make a fool of yourself. You know, people sort of see you as this po-faced 18th- or 19th-century remote figure."
