Tim Gilbert has confirmed he will finish up on the TODAY show on January 12.

On Tuesday, the 51-year-old sports presenter and journalist shared the news in a tweet, telling viewers, "What a beautiful bunch you all are just confirming Friday will be my last day on @thetodayshow."

He continued, "We are going to have a blast for the rest of the week like we have for the last five years it will be nice to unplug the alarm for a while."

After he shared a similar sentiment on Instagram, some of Gilbert's colleagues left comments of support.

Deborah Knight wrote, "Tim you are a treasure," and Trevor Long commented with the fist-bump emoji.

Gilbert has been employed by Nine since 1996.

On Sunday, Nine revealed the new line-up for TODAY.

This year, Georgie Gardner, 48, will be joined by 46-year-old Knight to host the new look program in an Australian first for breakfast television.

This follows on from reports in December that Nine was considering an all-female lineup for the new year.

Meanwhile, 33-year-old Tom Steinfort will take on the role of newsreader.

The hosts will be joined by legendary Melbourne sports presenter Tony Jones, 57, Nine finance editor Ross Greenwood, 50, and former ABC journalist and Triple J newsreader 31-year-old Brooke Boney as entertainment reporter alongside Brooke Boney as entertainment reporter, 64.

The revamp comes after the departure of Gardner's co-host Karl Stefanovic, 44, and newsreader Sylvia Jeffreys, 32, last year.
