The Notebook cast: Then and now
It's the 2004 movie that captivated a generation of fans and introduced the world to one of the greatest fictional love stories of all time: Noah and Allie.
But where is the cast of The Notebook now, 20 years on?
The hit film, which was based on the 1996 novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, starred the likes of Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling and James Marsden.
Two decades on, a lot has changed.

Rachel McAdams: Now
McAdams, 45, is arguably one of Hollywood's favourite romance actors.
She's given us plenty of other incredible on-screen love stories, including The Vow and About Time.
The actress has also appeared in some critically acclaimed films, such as Spotlight and Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret.
In her personal life, McAdams has been with filmmaker and screenwriter Jamie Lindon since 2016 and the pair have two children.
McAdams is fiercely private and not much is known about her romance – and she wants to keep it that way.
"I want to keep his life private, even if mine isn't," McAdams told the Sunday Times in 2018.
"But I'm having more fun being a mum than I've ever had. Everything about it is interesting and exciting and inspiring to me. Even the tough days – there's something delightful about them."
In fact, McAdams and Linden – despite their eight-year romance – have never actually been pictured together publicly at an event or on a red carpet.
The couple live mostly away from Hollywood, with the actress revealing during a virtual event in 2020: "We live sort of out in the country, a little farm down the road, so we can go and look at the animals."
Ryan Gosling: Then
A rugged, beard-sporting Ryan Gosling played the show's dreamy heartthrob, Noah.
Noah falls in love with Allie after meeting her at a fairground – but as the saying goes, the course of true love never did run smooth.
Gosling's character Noah is left heartbroken after Allie's family doesn't approve of him and he writes his lost love 365 letters in a desperate bid to get her back.
And the on-screen romance actually translated off-screen too, as Gosling dated Rachel McAdams, who plays Allie, after the film premiered.
The couple went public with their romance in 2005 after The Notebook's release.
Ryan Gosling: Now
In the 20 years since he played Noah, Gosling, 43, has become a bonafide Hollywood star.
He's been cast in some huge blockbusters including Barbie, La La Land, The Fall Guy and Crazy Stupid Love and has even been nominated for three Oscars.
His relationship with McAdams sadly didn't last. By 2007, though, it was all over. In a statement about why their relationship ended, Gosling blamed the fickleness of Hollywood.
"When both people are in show business, it's too much show business. It takes all of the light, so nothing else can grow."
Gosling managed to move on and is now with actress Eva Mendes and the pair have two daughters, Esmerelda and Amada.
James Marsden: Then
James Marsden's character was the biggest obstacle in Noah and Allie's love story.
He played Lon, the wealthy lawyer who is engaged to Allie before she manages to reunite with Noah.
James Marsden: Now
In the years since, Marsden has proved he has acting chops in the comedy department too.
He's starred in Dead to Me and played himself in the famously funny mockumentary, Jury Duty.
The 50-year-old says his role as Lon in The Notebook struck a chord with fans, who couldn't separate him from his character.
"When the movie became such a phenomenon, people would come up to me on the street and be like, 'Why were you trying to get in their way?! They were supposed to be together,'" Marsden told Entertainment Tonight in 2020.
"It was like, 'Ahh, I didn't do anything,'" he added . "'It was a job. I don't know.'"
Gena Rowlands: Then
Gena Rowlands played the older Allie in the The Notebook, who is suffering from memory loss and is hearing her own love story narrated by her husband Noah.
Gena Rowlands: 1930-2024
Rowlands, a three-time Emmy winner and Oscar nominee, died aged 94 in August 2024.
She died in the company of her family, including her husband, Robert and her daughter Alexandra Cassavetes.
No official cause of death has been reported, but Rowlands had been living with Alzheimer's disease, as her son revealed in a recent interview.
James Garner: Then
James Garner is the narrator of The Notebook, playing an older version of Noah who is reminding his now-wife Allie of their extraordinary love story as she loses memory from dementia.
