The winner of The Bachelor Australia for 2019 is Chelsie McLeod.

Despite his undeniable chemistry with runner-up Abbie Chatfield, bachelor Matt Agnew picked Chelsie to spend the rest of his life with in the emotional final episode on Thursday night.

To recap, Matt, 32, took both Abbie, a 23-year-old property analyst, and Chelsie, a 28-year-old chemical engineer, to South Africa before making his final decision.

He gave Chelsie a promise ring and finally told her that he returned her feelings and had fallen in love with her.

"You encapsulate everything I want in a woman. My biggest fear is opening up to that special someone and having my heart broken into a million pieces," Matt said.

"I feel the time is right to take the plunge, to take that leap and tell you how how I feel. Chelsie, I love you."

"I thought you were going to dump me," Chelsie responded. "I thought you were going to break my heart. I was crying all morning. And now you didn't break it, you made it whole again."

"I love how you make me believe in fairy-tales because when I'm with you I feel like I'm in one," Matt told Chelsie before giving her a ring, as a symbol of his commitment to her.

Prior to admitting his love for Chelsie, Matt had the difficult job of rejecting Abbie in a painful moment between the pair.

In the car ride home, Abbie had a surprising reaction to Matt turning her down.

"Maybe I don't love him. I'm not even upset," she said. "I just wanna forget about it. I'll get over this before it even airs."

"You seem angry," a producer responded, prodding Abbie for a reaction.

"I'm just embarrassed!" Abbie said.

Just as Abbie promised that she wasn't phased by the breakup, she broke into tears.
