The reality TV alum had discussed the breakup on the latest episode of her podcast, Two Ts In a Pod, which she co-hosts alongside Tamra Judge.
She said that while she was sad about the end of the relationship, the emotions were really due to her ongoing cancer fight.
“Thank you for everyone’s concern last week,” she said.
“I know I got very emotional on the pod but I think part of what it was – I mean clearly yes, I was very very sad. But I think I was meshing the two of ‘I don’t see a future with you’ and ‘I don’t have a future.’ And I think because of cancer-related things, that’s such a big fear of mine that there’s no future that I take things very personally.”
Mellencamp admitted she’s just working so hard to feel her best and fight for her life.
“But at the end of the day, all I can do is work my very hardest to feel my very best and that is going to be enough,” she continued.
“I’m fighting for my life and I’m gonna keep doing it. And yeah, people are gonna add special parts to your life and it’s going to make you happy at times and then it’s gonna make you sad at times. That’s okay. You just gotta keep fighting for you.”
Mellencamp was first diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma, which is the deadliest form of skin cancer, in 2022.

She underwent several surgeries, but in a devastating update in April 2025, she explained that the cancer had metastasized to her brain and lungs.
She has taken her supporters along her challenging journey as she has undergone several surgeries, including the removal of four brain tumours.
In October 2025, Mellencamp shared a positive update on her cancer battle, sharing the cancer was “gone” but it would take time to be considered in remission.
“The way the [doctors] said it works, it’s like one year, then two years, then at three years you’re allowed to be considered … in remission. But that was huge news,” she said.

But despite the good news, in August this year she shared that she still had nine more months of treatment to go.
At the time the mum-of-three gave her followers a glimpse at her immunotherapy sessions, calling it her “least favorite day of the month.”
However, she noted that she had “all the necessities so I am blessed.”
