The couple first met on the set of their show Madam Secretary, where they played husband and wife Elizabeth and Henry McCord.

They began their relationship three months after the show premiered, with US outlets confirming in December 2014 that they had been dating since the middle of the year after Leoni was spotted at Daly's performance of Red at the Dorset Theatre in Vermont.

Their relationship began soon after Leoni officially divorced her husband of 17 years, X-Files actor David Duchovny, in August 2014.

They share two children; actress Madelaine West Duchovny, 26, and a son Kyd Miller Duchovny, 23.

Daly was married to actress Amy Van Nostrand from 1982 to 2010, sharing a son, actor Sam Daly, and daughter Emelyn.

Both of Daly's children appeared in Madam Secretary, with his son playing the ex-fiancé of character Daisy Grant, White House Press Secretary to President Elizabeth McCord, and daughter Emelyn playing the niece of her dad's character.

Leoni and Daly were invited to sit at the table with veteran journalist Bob Schieffer and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The news of their relationship was a surprise to their fellow cast members, including Geoffrey Arend.
