Shia LaBeouf keeping sober so he doesn't 'embarrass' pal Brad Pitt

Shia LaBeouf is making a serious effort to overcome his battle with alcohol addiction so he doesn't "embarrass" Fury co-star Brad Pitt on the world stage.

According to TMZ, the 28-year-old is even more committed to his outpatient alcohol treatment program because he's afraid of letting down Brad on their upcoming international press tour for their World War II film.

It'll be the first global media blitz for Shia since 2011's Transformers: Dark of The Moon so there's a lot at stake.

Indeed, Shia's made headlines for all the wrong reasons this year, from a drunken brawl outside a strip club to being banned from an LA restaurant for urinating on its wall.

But the troubled star hit a real low on June 26 with his arrest for disorderly conduct, criminal trespass and harassment during a Broadway show.

A week later, Shia's publicist confirmed he was seeking treatment for his alcohol issues.

"Contrary to previous erroneous reports, Shia LaBeouf has not checked into a rehabilitation facility but he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction," the rep said.

"He understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery."

Brad knows just what Shia's going through, having battled alcohol and drug abuse in his past and turned his life around.

"For a long time I thought I did too much damage — drug damage," Brad told Esquire. "I spent years f---ing off."

Around a decade ago, Brad had "an epiphany; a decision not to squander my opportunities".
