Shania Twain has opened up about falling in love with her husband, Frederic Thiebaud, after their exes had an affair with each other.
Twain was previously married to Robert Lange, who had an affair with her close friend and assistant, Marie-Anne Thiebaud, who, at the time, was married to Frederic.

She told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs that the pair fell in love with one another as they struggled to come to terms with their shared grief.
When Twain first found out about the affair in 2008, she didn’t believe it. But with help from Thiebaud, she soon accepted the reality.
“Fred takes the blinders off, tells me what’s going on. I don’t believe him, and I tell him that I think he is imagining things, delusional. It turns out [the affair] was never going to end. So, Fred and I, we collapse, and at some point, we just got to let it go,” she said.
“And at that time, we found each other. When I accepted there was no hope, I found out what a beautiful person he was.”
She said that she remembered thinking to herself, “You need to be my partner. I’ll treat you better.”
After 14 years of marriage, Twain finalised her divorce from Lange in June 2010. By January 2011, she and Thiebaud were married.
Shortly after their wedding, in May 2011, Twain appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and for the first time shared details about how the pair fell in love.
“We slowly became very, very good friends. We had many months of just trying to make sense of everything, holding each other up. It was a very difficult time emotionally for both of us,” she said.
“I would say he was probably stronger than I was. He was a tremendous support – we were a support to each other – and really found something beautiful in the end and unexpected.”

Fast forward to 2026, and the pair are still going strong with 15 years of marriage under their belts.
“EXTREMELY PROUD of this amazing woman,” Thiebaud wrote on Instagram following Twain’s 2024 Glastonbury set.
“You are the absolute BEST!!!!!”
