Serena Williams' first date with her husband involved 'two hours of interrogation'

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian's first date was more like a job interview than a romantic first meeting – she even brought along her agent and her assistant.

"It was, like, two hours of interrogation and questions," Ohanian has revealed.

The Reddit co-founder and the tennis champion opened up about their unique first date in the latest installment of Williams' ESPN+ docu-series In The Arena.

Williams said she brought her agent Jill Smoller and her then-assistant to join her first meeting with Ohanian.

The date resembled a panel interview, with Ohanian sitting across from Williams and her team.

"Serena, her assistant her agent and then me on the other side of the table and they just bombarded me with questions," Ohanian recalled.

Throughout the date, Ohanian fielded plenty of questions from the trio, most of which came from her Smoller.

"Yeah, I totally tried to get the book on him right away," Smoller admitted.

Williams recalled Smoller's questioning.

"Jill asked him straight up, like, 'What's up with your girlfriend?' and he was like, 'I don't have a girlfriend' and he was saying that he had broken up with her," Williams recalled.

But the interrogation proved successful, with Ohanian slowly winning over Williams.

"It changed things when he said that [he didn't have a girlfriend], 'cause I was like, OK, now he's not being this beast," Williams laughed.

As their date went on, there was one moment that officially won Williams over.

"During dinner he started talking about Iron Man and stuff and Marvel, and that's the way to my heart," she explained.

Williams and Ohanian bonded over their shared love for the Marvel universe.

"She finally can talk to someone who likes the same things that she does," Smoller recalled.

A big smile sprawled across Ohanian's face as he recalled the moment.

"I guess I passed the test, so the next day I texted her and I was like, 'Last night was fun, but I'm going to pick you up and we're going to spend the day together in Paris and it's just going to be us'," he explained.

And the rest is history.

Williams and Ohanian became engaged in December 2016 and married a year later in November 2017.

The pair have welcomed two daughters Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr, six, and Adira River Ohanian, one.
