Selma Blair's heartbreakingly honest update amid health battle: 'I want my mom'

Selma Blair has shared more insight into the physical and mental setbacks she's experienced since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

The disease causes the immune system to destroy the protective covering of healthy nerves. Symptoms can vary but include vision loss, pain, fatigue, and impaired coordination, according to the Mayo Clinic.

In recent months, Blair, 47, has opened up about her struggles as she learns to live with the disease. On Thursday, the Legally Blonde star shared a photo of her bruised legs in a bathtub. In the caption, she addressed her insomnia and being "afraid and want to cry."

"Insomnia. I am like a waking baby. Afraid and want to cry. I want my mom. I do. I will take a bath. And cry. The beginning is hard. I have to Remember. #hsct #baby," she captioned the heartbreaking photo.

The previous day, the mum-of-son Arthur, eight, opened up about a lingering scab on her forehead.

"I have had this scab on my head for two months. It stands out to me as much as my newly bald head. I don't mind it. I don't mind the hair loss either. But if my eyebrows totally fall out, I am gonna be singing a different tune. Well, this is me. Right now. So you know I just don't post old photos, buildings, legs and fireworks," she joked.

The actress revealed last week that she had shaved her head as part of a medical treatment to strengthen her immune system.

"I am immunocompromised for next three months at least. So no kisses, please. I wanted to make sure any complications that might arise here were my private space. And we got through brilliantly," she shared in a post of herself inside a hospital room.
