Sarah Hyland's 14-year-old cousin dies in drink driving accident
Modern FamilyModern Family is grieving her 14-year-old cousin who was the victim of a drink driving accident over the weekend.
The actress shared a screenshot of a GoFundMe page set up for the family.
"This is my 14 year old cousin Trevor," she wrote on her Instagram Stories. "[On Saturday], he was killed by a drunk driver. My uncle is still in the hospital in need of more surgeries."
According to the GoFundMe page, the father and son were "driving to a show choir event and were involved in a serious car accident due to a drunk driver."
"Bryan, is recovering physically, but sadly Trevor has gained his wings and is singing and playing some crazy football in heaven," the page -- which was set up by Trevor's mum Becky and his sisters, Tessa and Zoe -- said.
The fundraising page is for funeral costs and medical expenses, and has already met its target goal of US$25k (approx $34k).
"Trevor was a funny, smart, innovative, athletic, goofy kid and he was so loved," it reads. "His memory will live on in many ways. Please help us do this for the family now to help ease their suffering away from money to focus on healing emotionally."
Hyland's co-star Ariel Winter shared the page on her own Instagram Stories, writing: "This is absolutely devastating...@sarahhyland's uncle and cousin were hit by a drunk driver, who had 2 previous DUIs already."
In another photo shared to Hyland's Instagram, she said the man "hit my Uncle's car so fast my cousin (who was wearing a seatbelt) was ejected from the car."
