Why Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes' Olympics outing is a rare sight: 'Don't do those things together'
Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes have cemented their place as one of Hollywood's most notoriously private couples over the years.
The pair have only walked the red carpet together once – and it was more than a decade ago in 2012 to promote their movie The Place Beyond the Pines.
Since then, the couple have opted to stay largely out of limelight, with Gosling, 43, doing solo appearances during the Barbie press tour in 2023.

But in a surprise turn of events, Mendes, 50, and Gosling – who are reportedly married –have stepped out for a very rare joined outing in Paris at the Olympic Games.
The famous couple were sighted among the star-studded crowd at the dressage Individual Grand Prix Freestyle on August 4 at the Palace of Versailles.
Gosling and Mendes both kept their overseas outing lowkey while wearing wide-rimmed sunglasses and hats.

The Olympic snaps mark the first time the private pair have been publicly photographed together in several years, and even longer since that one red carpet appearance.
As for why the couple tend to shy away from the camera, Mendes has answered before.
In April 2023, the actress posted a throwback clip to Instagram of her and partner Gosling in their 2012 movie The Place Beyond the Pines.
At the time, Gosling was promoting his new blockbuster film Barbie alongside Aussie gem Margot Robbie, director Greta Gerwig and the rest of the all-star cast.
When prompted by someone in the comments saying they hoped to see her on the Barbie red carpet, Mendes said her and Gosling "don't do those things together".
"Like these photos I've been posting, I'm only comfortable posting because it's already out there," she explained their preference to stay private.

"Oh, wait – for those who may catch me in a 'lie' – we only were on the red carpet together once when promoting this film," she added in a follow-up comment on the post.

"By 'not comfortable,' I mean exposing our very private life that we value. I'm still dying to do another movie with him though…♥️," Mendes further clarified, signing off on a hopeful note for fans.
While Mendes hasn't been her partner's plus one on the red carpet in many years, that hasn't stopped her from being his number one cheerleader.
When Gosling performed his iconic I'm Just Ken anthem at the 2024 Oscars, Mendes posted a clip of herself outside his dressing room with the Barbie track playing.

"Always by my man," she captioned the wholesome video.
More recently, the star showed her support publicly on social media for Gosling's latest film Fall Guy, gushing she was "extra proud of this one" for her beau.
The couple reportedly began dating in 2011 and have been together ever since.
Gosling and Mendes welcomed their first daughter Esmerelda together in 2014, and had their second daughter Amanda in 2016.
