Rupert Grint is preparing to return to what is no doubt his most famous role ever, playing Ron Weasley.

The 38-year-old, who played Weasley in all eight of the Harry Potter films, will reprise the role on Broadway in the current Harry Potter and the Cursed Child show.

Grint will be following in the footsteps of former movie co-star Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy in the movies, and went on to reprise the role himself in the theatre production.

Just like Felton, Grint will play the grown-up version of the role he made famous as a child in the movies.

But, fans of the iconic movie franchise will be disappointed to know that Felton and Grint will not be sharing the stage together.

While Felton is currently in the production, his run in the show is expected to end on Sunday, January 3, 2027.

Grint will take the stage as Ron Weasley for a 17-show run starting from Tuesday February 2, 2027.

“Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again in this stage of life. There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron’s shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new. And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life is truly exciting,” Grunt said in a statement.

“The first time I saw Cursed Child onstage, I was blown away and I can’t wait to set foot back on Platform 9 ¾ and pick up where I left off. I am overjoyed to join this exceptional cast and crew at the Lyric Theatre this winter.”

Felton’s casting in the show has an immediate box office impact, with ticket sales and attendance soaring.

It won’t be a surprise if Grint’s casting has a similar impact.

Fellow Harry Potter star Tom Felton, known for his role as Draco Malfoy, has also starred in The Cursed Child, although they won’t hit the stage together.  Supplied

Despite it being his first time to reprise the iconic Ron Weasley role, it won’t be his first time on Broadway.

Grint made his debut in 2014, for the production of Terrence McNally’s It’s Only a Play opposite Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane.

In the UK, he made his West End debut in the production of Jez Butterworth’s play Mojo, starring as the lead opposite Ben Whishaw.
