Round the Twist then and now: Where the cast of the Australian children's series are today
Have you ever? Ever felt like this?
Round the Twist continues to be a staple of Australian culture despite it going to air 35 years ago.
The series followed the Twists, seeing widowed artist father Tony and his children, 14-year-old twins Pete and Linda and eight-year-old Bronson adjust to their new life in a lighthouse on the Victorian Coast.
Richard Moir: Then
Long before he played the lovable dad Tony Twist in the classic Aussie show Round the Twist, Moir began his career as a film editor for the low-budget art films and TV dramas that began to populate Australian screens in the mid-70s.
He appeared in projects such as The Restless Years (1978), Prisoner (part of the original cast in 1979), With Prejudice (1983), An Indecent Obsession (1985), Dolphin Cove (1989), Law of the Land (1993), and more.
All the while, however, Moir was hiding a secret.
His left arm was the first to freeze, and while he could hide that for a while, he couldn't do the same when he began to have trouble speaking and was unable to speak his lines on cue, interfering with his life's work.
Moir was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 1990 and his diagnosis brought a premature end to his promising film career.
Andrew Gilbert: Then
Andrew Gilbert played the second version of the lovable TV dad after Moir had to give up the role. He kept the role for seasons three and four.
Andrew Gilbert: Now
Tony Twist was Gilbert's breakout role, with the actor having since appeared in a number of big-profile projects such as AFI Award-winning role in Kiss or Kill, Look Both Ways, The Dish, and Bed of Roses.
His most recent role was in Savage River in 2022.
Sam Vandenberg: Then
Sam Vandenberg was the first actor to play Pete Twist in the series, playing the goofy role to a tee.
Sam Vandenberg: Now
Today, Vandenberg continues to do what he does best – performing.
After his year-long stint on the show, he went on to be in Blue Heelers (1994) and Spicks and Specks (2005).
He has been involved in live bands since his high-school days and has performed everywhere.
He is currently an entertainer singer and entertainment agent.
Ben Thomas: Then
Ben Thomas was the second actor to play Pete in Round the Twist, taking on the role in season two.
Ben Thomas: Now
After he left the series, Thomas went on to appear in a guest role in Neighbours in 1993, Blue Heelers in 1996, and The Genie From Down Under 2 in 1998.
Since then he has kept a low profile.
Rian McLean: Then
Rian McLean is perhaps the face you'd most associate with Pete, with the actor having played him throughout series three and four.
He went through a lot in the series – who could forget the time he became pregnant and burped out a baby?
Rian McLean
After his breakout role, McLean went on to star in Home and Away as Christopher Fletcher, as well as a role in Neighbours and Stingers before dissapearing from our screens.
But it turns out he has also disappeared altogether, with his co-star Mathew Waters sharing in a 2020 podcast, "Rian McLean has vanished off the face of the earth. No one can find him.
"I have multiple times tried to see where he is on social media and if there's any way of chatting to him but can't get in touch.'"
