Robin Williams' heartfelt move for co-star Sally Field after death of her father: 'I never shared this story before'

Actress Sally Field has recalled one of her fondest – and most bittersweet – memories of her late Mrs. Doubtfire co-star and comedy legend, Robin Williams.

As she and other stars marked the 10th anniversary of his death in Vanity Fair, Field, 77, revealed how Williams supported her when she learned about the loss of her father while filming their iconic film, Mrs. Doubtfire.

Field told the publication Williams pulled her to the side to ask if she was OK, before helping to give her time away from set so she could mourn and help make arrangements.

She added that Williams did so with incredible sensitivity and praised her late co-star.

"I never shared this story before," Field began.

Explaining her father had been in a nursing facility, she said, "I got a phone call from the doctor saying my father had passed, a massive stroke."

"I was of course beside myself," she said, saying she tried her best to carry on with filming despite getting the heartbreaking news.

She explained that Williams soon found out the news after asking her and organised for her to have a break from filming.

"It's a side of Robin that people rarely knew: He was very sensitive and intuitive," she added.

Mrs. Doubtfire was released in 1993 and topped the box office.

Williams died in August 2014, dying by suicide following a battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

His son Zak Williams recently shared a sweet tribute to his late father on what would have been his 73rd birthday.

"Dad, on what would be your 73rd birthday, I remember you for all the hope and joy you brought to the world," he wrote on X in part of his post.

He added in part of his post: "I'm so grateful to be your son. Love you forever."
