Priscilla Presley is 'emotional' after watching new movie based on her life

Priscilla Presley has spoke of the emotions she felt watching new movie Priscilla, based on her 1985 memoir Elvis & Me.

Priscilla, 78, attended a screening of the movie at the Venice International Film Festival on September 4, alongside director Sofia Coppola and the cast.

"It was very difficult to sit and watch a film about you, about your life, about your love," she explained at a media call following the screening.

"Sofia did an amazing job. She did her homework, we spoke a couple of times and I really put everything out for her that I could," she added.

Priscilla was just 14 when she met Elvis Presley who was 14 years her senior. The couple were married from 1967 until 1973. Their only child, daughter Lisa Marie Presley, died on January 12, small bowel obstruction caused by a bariatric surgery.

"It was very difficult for my parents to understand that Elvis would be so interested in me and why, and I really do think [it was] because I was more of a listener," she said.

"Elvis would pour his heart out to me in every way in Germany: his fears, his hopes, the loss of his mother which he never, ever got over. And I was the person who really, really sat there to listen and to comfort him. That was really our connection."

She continued: "Even though I was 14, I was actually a little bit older in life, not in numbers. That was the attraction. People think, 'Oh, it was sex.' No, it wasn't. I never had sex with him. He was very kind, very soft, very loving, but he also respected the fact I was only 14 years old."

Elvis died in 1977 at the age of 42 following a cardiac arrest.

Euphoria star and Aussie actor Jacob Elordi plays Elvis and Cailee Spaeny is in the title role of Priscilla which traces Priscilla's early years and relationship with the music icon.

Elvis Presley estate officials reportedly slammed the movie, with TMZ claiming unnamed officials were displeased with news of the production, labelling it a "money grab."

Priscilla told Variety in 2022: "I love Sofia. I love her film work, and I think it'll be fine… I hope!"

Baz Luhrmann's biopic Elvis, released in 2022, followed the singer's rise to fame. Priscilla focuses on her journey including the demise of their relationship.

Priscilla has experienced her fair share of heartbreak including her divorce from Elvis and his death, and the loss of her daughter.

Following Lisa Marie's death the family reportedly entered legal proceedings over control of Lisa Marie's portion of Elvis' empire.

Her daughter, actress Riley Keough, would ultimately gain control.

"Riley is now the executor [of the estate], which should be right, obviously, being her daughter," Priscilla told The Hollywood Reporter in August. "Riley and I are on good terms. We were never not on good terms."

Riley told Vanity Fair in September: "We are a family, but there's also a huge business side of our family. So, I think that there was clarity that needed to be had."
