Anyone who has ever been to a Pitbull concert before will be familiar with the sea of bald caps that fills the venues he performs at all around the globe.

But now Mr Worldwide, as he’s also known, is Mr World Record after a successful Guinness World Record attempt at his London show on Friday (Saturday morning AEST).

The Fireball rapper’s British Summer Time (BST) gig was recognised for “the largest gathering of people wearing bald caps”, with 22,141 people filling Hyde Park in the latex headgear for the official moment.

But that wasn’t the only record of the night for Pitbull - he also broke country crooner Garth Brooks’ attendance record to have the biggest BST Hyde Park show in history, with 69,999 fans in attendance.

He described it as “a blessing and an honour”.

“Who would have thought a first-generation Cuban would be in London, record making and record-breaking,” he said backstage.

The rapper announced both records to the crowd himself on stage, at the start of his gig, doing an excited dance after he delivered the news.

“Hyde Park: we’re record making, record-breaking, history making,” he said.

Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Pérez, was joined on-stage by collaborators Kesha and Lil Jon during the show.

“Thank you to all the Bald-E’s for coming down tonight - we’re ‘having the time of our lives’,” he said, referring to his fans who are affectionately known as Bald-E’s, and quoting his own lyrics before leading into the finale.

Most fans came prepared with bald cap in hand but for those who forgot, there were some on sale for £10 ($19) at the merch stand.

The idea of the Guinness World Record attempt was first floated by BBC Radio One presenters Dean McCullough Greg James, who were then both MCs on stage in Hyde Park for the official attempt.

The crowd stood still for 60 seconds at 5pm (2am AEST), as officials took an aerial photo to verify the count.

The Guinness World Record was then announced by McCullough and James just before Pitbull took to the stage for the sold-out gig at 8.50pm, with a small presentation backstage.
