Comedian Pete Davidson's ex Cazzie David recalls moment he dumped her for Ariana Grande

The daughter of comedian Larry David is releasing a book of essays titled No One Asked for This, and she's set to reveal details about her failed relationship with Pete Davidson.

Writer Cazzie David was engaged to the Saturday Night Live star before he reportedly dumped her for Ariana Grande back in 2018. And although they are friends now —Davidson has apparently read her essay about him — Cazzie said their relationship was far from smooth sailing.

In her essay, the 26-year-old wrote about wanting to end their two-year romance on a number of occasions, but 26-year-old Davidson's reported mental health issues made her reluctant to do so.

Cazzie — who also has a web series titled Eighty-Sixed — found herself treading carefully because "previously, self-harm and suicide threats had come about from trivial circumstances".

When they broke up for the last time two years ago, Cazzie recalled feeling so bad that she rang him the next day to apologise. To her surprise, Davidson said he was "the happiest he had ever been".

Two days later, he dumped her via text message and one day after that he was dating Grande.

Cazzie was on a plane with her father at the time and recalled crying when she heard about Davidson's new relationship. But it was her father — who co-created Seinfeld and who stars in the award-winning series Curb Your Enthusiasm — that told her to snap out of it.

"[I] shook uncontrollably in his arms for the entire flight," she wrote, to which her 73-year-old dad screamed, "Cazzie, come on! Your ancestors survived the Holocaust!"

"It was a really pivotal moment in my life," she told the Los Angeles Times. "And writing about it has caused me a ton of anxiety, especially because I talk so much about hating the attention it brought me. Why would I bring more attention to myself by writing about it? But there's nothing that's gonna be worse than what I already experienced with that."

Davidson and Grande were engaged in June 2018, just one month after they began dating. But after just five short months of Instagram PDAs and matching tribute tattoos, the couple called it quits.
