If you were to ask Paris Jackson who Michael Jackson's favourite child was, she'd have no problem admitting it was her -- just don't put it on a magazine cover.

"Growing up, I was treated as the favourite because I was the only girl," the model told Harper's Bazaar for her April cover story.

But the 18-year-old was distraught to see her discussion of her late father be the angle that accompanied her photo on the cover.

"When magazines lie to you and tell you they're not gonna make the headline about something, but go right ahead and do it behind your back," she wrote in a since-deleted tweet.

She also digitally erased the cover line -'I was perfect in my dad's eyes'- in the cover image she shared on her Instagram.

In the article, Paris says that while brothers Prince, 19, and Blanket, 15, share given names with Michael, it was her who received special treatment from their superstar father.

"I was the princess," the 18-year-old continued. "I was perfect in my dad's eyes."

Paris says Michael, who died of cardiac arrest in 2009, was fiercely protective of her. He would often cover his homeschooled children's faces in public, and Paris explained that the only interactions she had during her childhood were with family members or other close adults.

"I didn't have social skills. I had to force myself to learn so fast," she said. "For the past six years, I've been learning how to communicate."

Fortunately, the model is confident she's a quick learner: "I think I've gotten pretty good at it."

Since her father's passing when she was just 11 years old, Paris has fought to overcome mental-health issues and attempted suicide in 2013.

"I was crazy. I was actually crazy," she told Rolling Stone in January. "I was going through a lot of, like, teen angst. And I was also dealing with my depression and my anxiety without any help."

She said Michael also struggled with depression, and she was prescribed the same antidepressants he once took.

"All anyone wants to talk about is my father, and it makes me sad," she told Harper's Bazaar.

Now, Paris is fighting to establish her own identity, while still mourning the loss of her father.

"Plenty of times I've thought about not doing anything in the public eye and having my own private time," she said.

"I know there are a lot of people who would feel very blessed to be in my position, so I want to use it for important things...I have a lot of ideas, but I'm still trying to figure out the right way to do it. I mean, I'm 18. I can't have it all together, but I do have a plan."
