Parent Trap's Elaine Hendrix addresses 18-year age gap with Dennis Quaid in 1998 hit film

The Parent Trap's Elaine Hendrix's has opened up about working with Dennis Quaid on the hit 1998 film.

Hendrix, 50, who played Quaid's on-screen lover Meredith, noted their "tremendous chemistry" despite the 18-year age gap.

"One of the generalized differences between men and women is that boys mature later and girls mature earlier. So I think I was sort of an older 26," she told Insider in celebration of the film's 23rd anniversary, saying Quaid was a much "younger" 44. "I think it worked well."

Hendrix was 26 years old when filming for the movie began, while Quaid was 44.

"Clearly, Meredith Blake is not an average 26-year-old," she said. "All of that I couldn't relate to. But how together she was and how ambitious she was — that I could definitely relate to."

"The character had to be close enough to the twins' age but not so close that it was like, 'Oh, this is really creepy,'" she noted.

In 2019, Quaid got engaged to Laura Savoie who is 39 years younger than him. At the time, Hendrix jokingly tweeted, "Watch out for those twins."

Hendrix's cheeky comment was in reference to the twin girls in The Parent Trap who disapproved of their dad's much younger girlfriend.

Quaid is also the father of twins from his marriage to Kimberly Quaid, Thomas and Zoe Quaid, 13. He also shares Jack Quaid, 29, with his ex-wife Meg Ryan.

In June last year, Quaid and Savoie quietly eloped and got hitched at a Santa Barbara seaside resort in California.

"Just looking into her eyes, she was the most stunning bride," he told People.
