'My Kitchen Rules' 2019: winners revealed in shock twist

Isabel Thomson Officer

It was one of the most explosives seasons of My Kitchen Rules to date.

From one contestant winding up in tears after mistakenly referring to a socialite as a transvestite during a dinner party, to last month's heated showdown between Victor and Ruby, tensions among participants remained high.

Now, in a shock twist, the underdogs that nobody expected to win, have taken home the grand prize of $250,000.

Last night, Matt and Luke stunned viewers when they won the My Kitchen Rules grand finale.

Beating favourites Ibby and Romel, the cricketing mates stole the show with their exquisite five course menu, finishing up with a near perfect score of 92 out of 100.

"Ibby and Romel have certainly been considered front runners for this competition. I think many teams thought that Matt and I would be a team that would just fall by the wayside at some point," the pair said. "But we've just kept on chugging along in our own little way, doing our own thing and... Bang, here we are."

Taking home the takings, the competition was close with Ibby and Romel only just missing out by four points.

Impressing the judges, Matt and Luke's standout dishes were their peach bellini panna cotta and their confit salmon with peas. The only dish they were told was underwhelming was their duck ravioli, however that didn't stop them from winning.

Speaking to camera about their narrow miss, Romel said, "That is huge. I don't care. We are both winners in my eyes you guys."
