The O.C. star Mischa Barton hospitalised for 'mental evaluation' after backyard breakdown

Former The O.C. star Mischa Barton has been hospitalised and placed on mental evaluation after suffering a breakdown in her LA backyard, TMZ reports.

According to the website's sources, the 31-year-old actress "was hanging over her backyard fence in West Hollywood and rambling about her mom being a witch, the world shattering...and Ziggy Stardust. At one point she fell backward off the fence and said, 'Oh my God, it's over! I feel it, and it's angry!'"

At the time, TMZ reports, she was wearing only a shirt and a necktie.

Law enforcement officials have confirmed to TMZ that Mischa was voluntarily taken to the hospital for evaluation after firefighters and sheriff's deputies responded to a call about a possible overdose.

Mischa's personal and professional life has been up and down since The O.C. ended in 2006. She's been embroiled in a feud with her mother over lost earnings, and she was hospitalised for two weeks and placed on involuntary psychiatric hold in 2009.
