Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth split after less than a year of marriage

It's official. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have split up after less than a year of marriage.

A rep for Cyrus, 26, confirmed to People that they decided to end things after just seven-months of marriage.

"Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time," read the statement.

"Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers."

The rep continued, "They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy."

Rumours began to swirl that the 'Nothing Breaks Like a Heart' hit-maker and Hemsworth, 29, had decided to go their separate ways after Cyrus posted a recent photo of herself without her wedding ring.

The photo was taken while the singer was on holiday in Italy with Brody Jenner's ex, Kaitlynn Carter. The two also recently split after just one year of marriage.

Speaking to Elle in July, Cyrus opened up about her "unique" marriage with Hemsworth and said she doesn't "fit into a stereotypical wife role."

"I think it's very confusing to people that I'm married. But my relationship is unique," she told the magazine.

"I don't know that I would ever publicly allow people in there because it's so complex, and modern, and new that I don't think we're in a place where people would get it.

She continued, "I mean, do people really think that I'm at home in a f---ing apron cooking dinner? I'm in a hetero relationship, but I still am very sexually attracted to women."

She added, "People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still f---ing good, and I know that. I made a partner decision. This is the person I feel has my back the most. I definitely don't fit into a stereotypical wife role. I don't even like that word."

This isn't the first time that the high-profile couple have gone through a break up.

The former Disney star and the Hunger Games actor first met back in 2009 on the set of The Last Song.

On and off over the years, Hemsworth first proposed in 2012, however they broke off their engagement a year later.

In 2015, they got back together before tying the knot in an intimate ceremony in December 2018.
