Matildas star Sam Kerr cosies up to girlfriend Kristie Mewis ahead of her 30th birthday

Matildas captain Sam Kerr is preparing to celebrate her milestone 30th birthday on Sunday, after a busy few weeks leading the Australian team to third place at the FIFA Women's World Cup.

And this week, the soccer star enjoyed some pre-birthday celebrations with her American girlfriend, Kristie Mewis, 32.

Kerr, who just weeks ago thrilled fans with her efforts in the World Cup, enjoyed some well-deserved downtime by partying on a boat, tucking into some cupcakes and cosying up to her girlfriend.

Kerr shared a series of images on Instagram on Monday, captioning her post: ''Pre birthday cele [sic]."

The Chelsea forward will officially celebrate her 30th birthday on September 10.

In one image, Kerr and Mewis share a hug as Mewis sips on a drink.

In another, Kerr looks stylish in a black and white matching short and shirt set while Mewis flashes her abs in a crop top and sheer nude skirt ahead of a night out.

Kerr was also gifted some cupcakes that read: "Happy 30th Sam."

It's believed that Kerr and Mewis are celebrating in America, with an American flag being seen in the background of one snap.

The pair first sparked dating rumours after the Aussie Matildas were defeated by Team USA at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2021.

A sweet shot of Mewis, 32, embracing Kerr, 29, on the field sparked rumours of a romance between the country-crossed lovers.

These rumours were eventually confirmed by the athletes, and two years on, the duo appear to still be going strong – even long distance.
