Married At First Sight's Andrew: 'I'm the poster boy for broken hearts around the world'
This week, Married at First Sight fans declared Andrew (aka Jonesy) the show's new villain, after he mocked his partner Cheryl to the other grooms – and to her face.
But in an interview done with TheFIX last month, the 38-year-old Perth firefighter revealed he was already in hiding long before his bad behaviour aired on TV.
"I've had to deactivate Facebook and only jump on in brief moments to try and contact friends," he told us on Valentine's Day. "I haven't been out in public since the show aired."
At the time, his seclusion appeared to be based more on avoiding a fan frenzy than dodging haters.
"I've had girls leave numbers at the fire station. It's been crazy," he told TheFIX. "I try to stay home to avoid all that. I had people lining up at the pub to have a photo with me.
"It's almost like I'm the poster boy for broken hearts around the world."
On Sunday's episode, Andrew was seen mocking Cheryl's body and hobbies at the boys' night. On Tuesday, he denied his antics (which were caught on camera) when confronted by Cheryl at the dinner party. Several of the other grooms – including Anthony and Nick – backed up his false claims.
"I was in a little bit of shock," Cheryl told TheFIX after learning what Andrew had said about her. "It was pretty disgusting."
And Sean – one of the only grooms to speak out against Andrew's behaviour on the show – told us he was equally appalled.
"There were some derogatory comments made about her boobs and other things," he told TheFIX. "I guess it comes down to the fact that I was brought up by my parents to respect women and value them."
