Liv Cripps reveals cancer diagnosis days after marrying AFL star Jamie Cripps: 'Not a word you'd expect to hear at age 26'

Liv Cripps, model and wife of West Coast Eagles star Jamie Cripps, has revealed her cancer diagnosis days after her wedding in Western Australia.

Liv, 26, shared on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer a few weeks before her big day.

Posting a photo of her lying in a hospital bed, the newlywed, who is represented by Chadwick Models, said the news had come as a shock.

"Cancer is not a word you'd expect to hear at age 26, but a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer," she wrote.

"So thankful to be surrounded by so many amazing friends and family who have shown so much love and support.

"Sharing my story to help encourage others to get those lumps checked because you can never be too sure."

Her new husband, who she wed last weekend, shared a small love heart of support in the comments of the post.

The cause of thyroid cancer, which affects the butterfly-shaped gland at the base of the neck is not well understood. It can be linked to genetic or environmental factors and is also 2.9 times more common in women than men.

The cancer can have no symptoms, or show up through a small or noticeable lump in the neck.

Since sharing her diagnosis, Liv has been inundated with well wishes from friends and followers.

Model and Love Island Australia star Tayla Damir wrote, "Oh Liv, sending you all the love and strength in the world."

"You're such a super woman Liv! Praying for you hard," added Brittany Brown, wife of fellow West Eagles player Nic Naitanui.

Former Miss Universe Australia winner Olivia Molly Rogers also added a message of support: "Thinking of you Liv. You've got this x."

Liv and her AFL star husband celebrated their nuptials surrounded by friends and family last Saturday at Black Brewing Co, a craft beer brewery in Margaret River.

The model shared a selection of photos from the wedding on Instagram, describing it as the "best day ever".

The wedding came two years after Jamie popped the question while the couple were holidaying in Queenstown, New Zealand.

In 2020, Liv and Jamie welcomed their first child, son, Reif, who was born September 16.
