Liam Payne remembered for his 'compassion and kindness' by charity he supported for years

News of Liam Payne's death shocked the world when it broke on Thursday.

Now, UK charity Trussell, previously known as the Trussell Trust, has remembered the late One Direction star for his "compassion and kindness" over the years after he helped the charity with their food bank initiatives and helped raise awareness with fans.

"We are extremely saddened by the news of Liam Payne's death," chief executive Emma Revie said in a statement, per the Independent.

Revie went on to say the late singer was a "generous supporter of Trussell and our community of food banks".

"We greatly appreciate the compassion and kindness he always showed to people facing hunger and hardship. His death is a very tragic loss, and our thoughts are with his loved ones," Revie added.

Payne previously posted to his millions of followers on X about working with Trussell saying he "made a personal, long-term commitment to support" the charity.

"It was humbling to get involved at my local food bank yesterday, and to meet some of the incredibly passionate people like Carla, Dorothea and Helena who are working tirelessly during these incredibly tough times," he wrote.

"I'm glad to be playing my small part as we work towards a future in which nobody needs a food bank."

He also spent some of his final moments before his shock death donating to crowd fundraising pages for sick children and encouraged fans to donate on his Snapchat.

''As a father it hits me slightly differently because I look at them and if that was my child I'd want everyone in the world to look at me and help me," he said in one video.

The former One Direction star died after falling from the third floor of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to state police, as reported by CNN.

"In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly," they said in the statement.

"The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us.
