Liam Neeson's new film Blacklight issues callout for Aussies to feature in the action movie as extras

Ever wanted to be in a Liam Neeson movie? Well, now's your chance.

The Irish actor just finished filming his new movie, Blacklight, in Melbourne but soon production will head to Canberra to shoot some pivotal scenes — and they need extras!

Before you get too excited, Neeson himself won't be in the nation's capital as he is now back in Hollywood, but the opportunity is still too good to pass up. The successful applicants will instead film with Neeson's stunt double.

"His stunt double, also from the United States, will have to go back to America soon [which is] why filming has to happen now," Screen Canberra Chief Executive Monica Penders told the ABC. "This is the last scene that they're doing."

Neeson first arrived in Australia in late October and was forced to quarantine for two weeks as per coronavirus pandemic protocols. Then, in November, filming of Blacklight commenced on the streets of Melbourne.

Apparently, the entire movie was meant to be filmed in Canberra but the pandemic vetoed those plans and Melbourne became the primary location. But for four days next week, Canberra will still get its turn to shine in a "crucial car chase sequence".

"It's going to be shot in the middle of the city, which is going to be interesting!" Penders revealed. "[It] is a great opportunity to showcase Canberra as an ideal location of film productions of an international scale."

The action-packed blockbuster reportedly cost $43 million to make and employed 340 local crew and more than 825 casuals, cast and extras in Melbourne, and it's believed to create many jobs in Canberra as well while generating more than $1.5 million in revenue for the city. 

Directed by Mark Williams, the movie also stars Aussie actor Guy Pearce. In the film, Neeson plays a troubled fixer for the FBI who helps undercover agents out of sticky situations, but he soon gets caught up in a dangerous situation himself.
