Leo Sayer reveals he cancelled UK show after being hospitalised in Australia: 'I became very ill'

Leo Sayer has revealed he cancelled UK shows after being rushed to hospital in Australia.

The English singer, who has been an Australian citizen since 2009, released a statement on Facebook sharing with fans he was hospitalised over multiple "complications".

"I haven't posted anything publicly about this before but I couldn't fly or make the recent shows in the UK as I became very ill just before the trip," Sayer, 75, said.

"I have been in hospital here for the last 3 weeks in Australia with kidney, bladder and prostrate complications," Sayer continued.

The star tagged his location on the Facebook post, sharing he was hospitalised at the Southern Highlands Private Hospital in Bowral, NSW.

Along with a selfie of him slightly smiling for the camera, Sayer flagged on his post that he was "feeling thankful".

Sayer was scheduled to perform in the UK following the release of his latest cover album Northern Songs in 2022.

The singer, who resides in Queensland, seemingly last performed a show in Strathpine back in June.

The When I Need You singer continued his social media statement by confirming sharing the complications had developed suddenly.

"It all happened at the last moment, so it was too late to warn anyone," he explained.

"I'm so sorry to have disappointed my fans but these things can happen to us 75 year olds!"

Sayer revealed he is still being treated in hospital but is now "well on the mend" following his health scare.

"I will take a necessary short break from activities and be back fighting for shows in 2024 - particularly my UK and Ireland tour next autumn," he assured fans.

The singer finished his statement by thanking fans for their "concerns and good wishes."

Many flooded to the comments section to wish the singer well after his three week hospitalisation.

"Sorry to hear this Leo get well soon!!" American singer Marcella Detroit wrote along with some purple hearts and the praying hands emoji.

"Speedy recovery Leo!" Australian radio presenter Brian Peel said.

Sayer first found fame in the UK for his single The Show Must Go On in 1973.

The singer has since released other hit tracks over the years including More Than I Can Say and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.

The English star currently lives in Australia with his wife Donatella Piccinetti, who he married this year.
