'I wasn't shocked': Kelly Clarkson reveals being 'pre-diabetic' motivated her to lose weight

Kelly Clarkson has revealed that being 'pre-diabetic' was the catalyst for her recent weight loss.

The former American Idol star, 41, spoke about her recent health overhaul during an episode of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show.

The mother-of-two said that she "wasn't shocked" by the diagnosis – but wanted to do something about it.

"Well, I was told I was pre-diabetic," Clarkson said.

"That's literally what happened… and well, I wasn't shocked. I was a tiny bit overweight."

"But I wasn't shocked by it. They were like, 'You're pre-diabetic. You're right on the borderline.' And I was like, 'But I'm not there yet.'"

She added: "And then I waited two years and then I was like OK, I'll do something about it."

"There's a huge difference between being in shape and losing weight – and I am the latter."

She recently told People that she's been eating "healthy" and a following protein-rich diet under the guidance of her doctor.

It comes after the Since U Been Gone singer revealed why she left Los Angeles with her children after her split from ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.

Clarkson made the decision to move her talk show from the West Coast of the US to New York, telling Peopleshe was "very unhappy".

Speaking to the publication, the star said: "I was very unhappy in L.A. and had been for several years. I needed a fresh start."

"We told NBC, 'I'm not trying to sound ungrateful, I just can't stay here anymore for my mental health; for me and my kids.'

"They weren't doing well either."

Now, the mother-of-two said she's "feeling good" and loving her time in the Big Apple with her kids, often sightseeing in between breaks from her show.

It came after it was reported that Clarkson is "relieved" now that she no longer has to pay spousal support to her ex-husband.

According to US Weekly, the American Idol winner, 41, and Blackstock, 47, settled their divorce in March 2022 and she reportedly agreed to pay $US115,000 ($AU170,000) per month in spousal support until January 2024.

A source told the publication: "Kelly is feeling relieved that her spousal support to Brandon has come to an end."

According to the publication and court documents previously obtained by Us, the singer was asked to pay $US1,326,161 (approx. $AU1.96million) as a one-time lump sum on top of the spousal support.

She allegedly previously agreed to pay $US45,601 ($AU66,000) a month in child support, despite having primary custody of their two children.

It was previously reported that Clarkson won the lawsuit against her ex-husband for 'unlawful' acts on her behalf.

All up, he must pay Clarkson back $2,641,374 (approx. $3,996,026). Us Weekly reported "his legal team has filed to appeal the ruling".

Clarkson filed for divorce in 2020 after seven years of marriage.
