'It was horrendous': Singer Keith Urban reveals worst-ever gig of his career

Being a singer would have to be up there with one of the best jobs, playing at packed arenas in the most beautiful places in the world.

But like anything, there are good and bad days, and it seems even Aussie singing star Keith Urban had his fair share of bad gigs before making it big.

Now Urban, who is married to fellow Aussie superstar Nicole Kidman, has revealed his worst-ever gig took place at Tamworth Regional Airport and we have got to admit, it sounds pretty bad.

Urban, who is currently in Australia and this week announced he will be back in 2025 for a series of live concerts, was appearing on Nova 100's Jase & Lauren show this morning when co-host Jason Hawkins asked Urban to reveal the "s----est" gig he ever played.

"Playing at an airport in Tamworth. On the baggage carousel. I'm not kidding. Back in the day."

Urban revealed that it was early on in his career when his manager told him he had managed to score them some "free flights".

"And I go, 'That's great.' And he goes well, we've just got to do a little gig at the airport and it was one of those deals.

"And we get to the airport and I'm like, 'Where do we set up?' [and] the airport manager goes [right here]."

Urban said that after he and his three-piece band set up on the carpeted area in the middle of the airport right near where the conveyor belt goes around, he was directed to start playing even though there was no one around.

"So I am up there with my three-piece band... and the airport manager goes... 'OK, start playing.' And I went, 'There's nobody here.' And he goes, 'Oh, they'll come around as soon as they hear the music.'

"So we start playing. And then a couple of people came. Few more people, we got this pretty good crowd. And I'm like, 'Actually, it's not that bad'.

"Next minute, URRRR URRRR," he said, imitating the sound the baggage claim carousel made as it sprang into action.

"And all the bags start coming. Everybody grabs their luggage and p---ed off. It was horrendous."

It isn't likely Urban will find himself playing in regional airports any time soon. The singer is in the midst of a world tour which will see him next play a series of concerts in Las Vegas.
