Jessica Simpson claims publicists told celebrities not to date her

Jessica Simpson says publicists warned other stars not to date her following her messy divorce from Nick Lachey.

Making an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show on Thursday, the 40-year-old 'With You' singer claims that publicists would tell celebrities to "stay away" from her if they wanted to remain "respected."

"I was the person to run from because every guy would be listening to their publicist," Simpson told Drew Barrymore, 46. "'Stay away, stay away you'll never be a respected actor, you'll never be a respected musician if you are dating her.' That was back then. At least, that was the excuse I heard."

Simpson, who is now married and a mother of three, was reflecting on her experience on dating after her highly-publicised divorce from Lachey in 2005.

"Well, I have dated some — a couple musicians, so," the Open Book author added. "Some under the radar that people don't know about."

Simpson had an on-again/off-again relationship with musician John Mayer from 2006 to 2007. In her memoir, she detailed their time together and revealed that Mayer was the reason behind her split from NFL player Tony Romo.

The #1 New York Times Bestseller and her husband, Eric Johnson, 41, will be married seven years this July. They share three children together — Maxwell Drew, nine, Ace Knute, seven, and two-year-old Birdie Mae.
