Jennifer Aniston says filming Friends: The Reunion was like a 'sucker punch in the heart'

Jennifer Aniston's return to the Friends soundstage brought on some heavy emotions.

The Rumour Has It actress reflected on what it was like to film the highly-anticipated TV special 17 years after the show wrapped.

"It was a sucker punch in the heart in a way," Aniston, 52, said on SiriusXM's Gayle King in the House after Friends: The Reunion finished on May 27. "It was for all of us, I think. Even Courteney (Cox) we got tears out of."

Aniston was joined by Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc for the reunion on May 27. The TV special kicked off with the cast entering the old set that they spent a decade of their lives filming in.

"We romanticised it, but you also have to remember we haven't been there (since the series finale)," Aniston said. "And that time was a very specific time, when we were saying goodbye to something that we didn't want to, we cared deeply about, but we knew it was the time to say goodbye. Our lives were ahead of us. We had our future ahead of us."

The actress added, "It almost felt like time had stopped and we time travelled. And there's good in that, and then there's heartbreak in that."

In Friends: The Reunion, host James Corden asked the cast if any of them would consider reviving their roles in the iconic series.

"That's all up to (Friends creators) Marta (Kauffman) and David (Crane) and I once heard them say, and I completely agree, that they ended the show very nicely, everyone's lives are very nice," Kudrow said at the HBO Max event.

"They would have to unravel all those good things in order for there to be stories. I don't want anyone's happy ending unravelled."
