Jay-Z joins Instagram, makes history with follow from Beyonce, then deletes his account

Jay-Z officially joined Instagram earlier this week.

He then quickly gained more than 1.8 million followers but made social media history by becoming the first and only person his wife Beyonce followed.

But, a day later, the account was deleted.

Famous for not being very active on social media, the father-of-three kept his debut simple with just the one grid post.

The rapper and movie producer shared a single photo of the poster art from his new Western, The Harder They Fall.

He also kicked things off with a single IG Story, featuring a countdown for the movie's premiere on Netflix, which Beyonce excitedly re-posted on her own Story.

At the same time as the 51-year-old made his Insta debut, singer Beyonce shared a couple's photo from their Tiffany & Co campaign, delighting fans.

"You posted the 2 of yall together RIGHT when Jay Z hit 1 million followers & the same night yall followed each other. i love yall," one fan excitedly commented.

A number of fans, referencing Jay-Z's addition to Instagram, left comments like: "Why u ain't tag him sis"

"Now why would you post this and not tag him…," another asked the singer.

It may have been that Beyonce knew Jay's plans all along to simply promote his new movie ahead of it hitting the streaming service.

Jay-Z, also known as Shawn Carter, served as a producer on the film, which is directed by singer Seal's brother Jeymes Samuel and stars Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba and Regina King.

Samuel and Carter, who have previously worked together on the rapper's albums, also curated the film's soundtrack.
