YouTube star James Charles hits back after receiving 'death threats' over JoJo Siwa's makeover: 'Leave me alone'
Controversial YouTube star James Charles said he received death threats after he gave teen pop sensation JoJo Siwa a recent makeover.
The 21-year-old beauty vlogger invited Siwa, 17, to be his guest on his YouTube channel last week, where he switched up her trademark rainbow look for something more sophisticated.
The video was a hit, racking up more than 14 million views and receiving close to one million likes since it was shared on August 21.
But with the compliments came the criticism, with Stan Twitter unhappy Charles chose Siwa instead of their favourite star.
For the uninitiated, 'Stan Twitter' is a cult-like fandom on the platform made up of users or 'Stans' who are obsessed with one particular celebrity.

"Today's collab was with someone I waited two years to work with & I was so excited for and now I'm getting death threats because Stan Twitter assumed it would be their fav and it wasn't," Charles tweeted over the weekend.
"There are a TON of huge artists I'd love to film with one day, be patient!"
Charles went on to say he can't win because sometimes when he makeovers over stars like Siwa, die-hard fans come after him for ruining their look.
"I liked a few tweets from fans saying they wanted me to collab with their favs because I also would love to collab with their favs," he explained.
"If I DID collab with their favs, today would've been full of 'stay away from her' tweets anyway. Leave me alone."

But Siwa Stans can rest assured that the former Dance Moms star won't be getting rid of her signature style permanently.
"I will say it's very pretty and you did a wonderful job on the hair and the makeup. The makeup is stunning. It's very pretty," she told Charles in the video.
"It's obviously not me. You know how I showed up here in sparkles and bright pink and neon and rainbow but it is really pretty."
