Hugh Jackman shares sweet tribute to wife Deborra-lee Furness as she receives Australia Day honours

Hugh Jackman has shared a touching tribute to his wife on social media.

When news broke that Deborra-lee Furness had been appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (OA) in the Australia Day Honours List, Jackman couldn't contain his excitement.

"So proud of Deb!" he said, just hours after the announcement, alongside a photo of his wife wearing her Adopt Change cap while playing with their dogs.

"Today she was named an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia. For almost 30 years, I've witnessed first hand her endless generosity and commitment to service. Her intolerance for injustice, and her heart which is as large as our great country.

"Today everyone else gets to understand and appreciate her incredible work. As for her service to the arts, the breadth and depth of her work is extraordinary.

"Also she is the greatest actress I have worked with … And, I'm not just saying that!"

The couple met as actors on the set of Australian TV drama Corelli in 1995 and have been married since April 1996.

The actress and activist was officially recognised "for distinguished service to children as an adoption advocate, to not-for-profit organisations as an ambassador, and to the arts".

Alongside Furness, singer Delta Goodrem and director Gabrielle Kelly were both named Members of the Order of Australia (AM).
