Hilary Duff admits to gatecrashing 'childhood nemesis' Lindsay Lohan's premiere amid feud

Hilary Duff has broken her silence after more than 20 years to open up about her teen feud with Lindsay Lohan, who she labelled her "childhood nemesis".

Duff, who is now 38, confirmed she had in fact gatecrashed Lohan's Freaky Friday premiere in August 2003, a rumour of millennial folklore in the age before social media.

Both Lohan and Duff, who played Lizzie McGuire on TV for years, were Disney child stars but the So Yesterday singer hinted their feud might have had more to do with a boy than their careers.

In an appearance on podcast Call Her Daddy, to promote her upcoming return to music after more than a decade away, Duff wasn't afraid to go backwards in coming forwards.

When asked if she had - as long rumoured - "intentionally" turned up on Lohan's big night to make a statement, the actress told host Alex Cooper, "I think absolutely, yes".

"Yeah, I was a teenager," she noted.

Duff added in her defence that she was invited by a star of the movie, Chad Michael Murray, who she worked with on A Cinderella Story, which they'd filmed that year.

Months later, Lohan returned the favour, rocking up to Duff's Cheaper by the Dozen premiere in December, which didn't surprise her one bit.

"No, I mean, that was my childhood nemesis," Duff told Cooper.

"I'm sure my publicist will be like, 'what the f--- are you doing?' But now it's so many years later, who cares? It does not matter.

"Also, Lindsay came up to me at a club once and was like, 'Are we good?' And I was like, 'We're good'. She was like, 'Let's take a shot'. I was like, 'OK', it was amazing."

Duff hinted that her ex-boyfriend, the late actor and singer - and fellow child star - Aaron Carter may have been at least part of the reason for their feud.

Duff dated Carter on and off from 2000-2003, after she got him a cameo on her TV series.

She believes he was dating Lohan at the same time, with the pair known to be in a relationship between 2002-2003.

Duff's feud with Lohan and a separate feud with Canadian singer Avril Lavigne was parodied on Saturday Night Live, when Lohan hosted an episode in 2004.

Decades later, Duff is now a mum-of-four, but the feud is still somewhat a part of her life, with her seven-year-old daughter a big fan of Lohan's.

"Banks is like a Lindsay Lohan stan," she laughed.

"Honestly, Banks is like my number one cheerleader to the max - she obviously, like, doesn't know any of that [feud] stuff."
