Thomas Weatherall shares the biggest change he's made since skyrocketing to fame on Heartbreak High

Aussie actor Thomas Weatherall has shared the biggest adjustment he's had to make since skyrocketing to fame.

Weatherall is one of the stars of Netflix's hit show Heartbreak High. The 23-year-old stars as Malakai Mitchell, the main love interest of the central character, Amerie Wadia.

The young cast of the popular show found themselves as some of Australia's most famous faces basically overnight after season one aired in September of 2022.

Weatherall said that although he's still the same "ordinary, boring guy," (his words, not ours) there is one major adjustment he's had to come to terms with.

"Its funny you start to notice a few people looking at you at a café," he tells 9honey Celebrity. "The biggest thing I've had to do is make sure I'm dressed appropriately to be out

"The amount of photos I was getting sent, DMs of me picking up a coffee in my pyjamas... it's not a nice one but it is a look," he laughs.

Season two of Heartbreak High is streaming on Netflix from today, and Weatherall says he credits the show for changing the trajectory of his career for the better.

"Professionally, its changed everything and I'm so grateful to be apart of this show and can say pretty confidently I'm probably not doing the last few jobs that I've had without this show," he explains.

"You get to be a part of conversations you weren't once before and that's really exciting, and kind of humbling."

Weatherall stars alongside several other Aussie actors, including Chloé Hayden who grew up watching her mother Sarah Hayden act on iconic TV shows Neighbours and Kath & Kim.

Hayden told 9Honey that it was watching her mother's career that inspired her to get into acting.

"I'd think, 'That's so cool! That's such a fun job," she said, adding that she wasn't sure if it was a viable career path for her after being actively discouraged from it by her teachers at school.

"I wasn't even diagnosed as autistic at school, but all of my teachers were like, 'Mmmm, you're a bit weird, you're a bit awkward, maybe not for you,'" she recalled.

But now as one of the star's of Heartbreak High, Hayden credits her acting career to being autistic.

"I've had to act for my entire life to survive, so I don't need NIDA training to be an actor because my life is my training," she said

"I 100 per cent believe autistic people make the best actors because our life is our training for it."
