Hamish Blake takes son Sonny to first baseball game as daughter Rudy starts walking

When it comes to fatherhood, Hamish Blake is a cool dad, not a regular dad.

That's why he decided to go against the way his father raised him for his own role as a parent -- in a light-hearted way, of course.

The Blakes -- Hamish, his wife Zoë Foster Blake and their two children, Sonny, 4, and Rudy, 1 -- have been travelling around the States for the past few months, giving Zoë the opportunity to launch her skincare brand Go-To Skincare in beauty giant Sephora.

It's also given Hamish, 36, and the kids the chance to do some sightseeing, and do all the typical touristy things you're expected to do when you spend an extended period of time abroad.

This past weekend, Hamish and Sonny had some quality father-son time when the True Story With Hamish and Andy star took his son to his first Yankees game. And boy did he have something to say about it, making jokes about how Sonny was already luckier than he was as a child.

"When I was a kid, without fail, my father would, every single day of his life, no matter what else he had on, not take me to a Yankee game. Just to be safe pretty much every day he would keep us on the other side of the world from the stadium, such was his discipline," Hamish wrote on Instagram.

"When I became a father myself I promised I would try and do the same to show my kids what determination looks like but yesterday I had a brain fart and slipped up bad."

The result? This too sweet Instagram photo:

But it wasn't just Sonny hitting milestones in the Big Apple.

Zoë revealed that the couple's daughter, Rudy, who turned 1 in July, has started walking.

The former beauty editor-turned-author shared footage of Rudy's steps in none other than Central Park -- a pretty sweet place to learn how to walk.

There was earlier confusion that the Blakes were staying put in the States, but Hamish debunked this during a recent chat with Kyle Sandilands and Jackie 'O' Henderson, and revealed they would be returning to Australia shortly.

It was also clear in Zoë's Instagram post announcing the move that it was only temporary.

"I am so wildly excited," she wrote. "We've been marinating this for years: a hefty slab of time away with our kids before they're in school; no work, no email, (for a portion of it, anyway) just the pale, Aussie Griswolds having the time of their lives."
