A handful of Aussies have scored top nominations as the nominees for the 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards, celebrating the best in television and film were revealed, Tuesday.

The movies The Power of the Dog and Belfast led film nominees, earning seven nods each. The HBO drama Succession — starring Australia's Sarah Snook — earned the most nominations for TV series with five, followed closely with Apple's Ted Lasso and The Morning Show with four nominations each.

Aussie natives Nicole Kidman and Kodi Smit-McPhee received acting nominations for their films Being the Ricardos and The Power of the Dog respectively, while Sarah Snook was acknowledged for her supporting role in Succession.

However, Guillermo del Toro's noir drama Nightmare Alley, starring Bradley Cooper and Aussie star Cate Blanchett, didn't get a single nomination.

Rapper Snoop Dogg made a surprise appearance to announce the nominees.

Multiple media partners, including NBC that has previously aired the Golden Globes, have opted not to participate publicly with the ceremony this year because of diversity issues within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the group behind the event.
