Golden Globes 2019: Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh's opening monologue panned on social media

Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh are arguably two of the nicest people in Hollywood, which may have made them odd choices to host the 2019 Golden Globes, seeing previous hosts have been known for their bite, especially in the all-important opening monologue.

So it isn't too surprising that Samberg, 40, and Oh, 42 -- the first person of Asian descent to host the Golden Globes -- decided to turn the traditional opening monologue roasts into 'nice' ones.

"You know what race of people that gets under my skin?" Samberg set up, with Oh feigning horror at a potential racist quip. "The Hollywood marathon."

"Bradley Cooper..." Oh started, scouring the crowd and setting up a potential burn. "You're hot."

Other examples of their joke roasts include calling Michael B. Jordan "a snack" and Samberg asking Jeff Bridges to be his dad.

However, it seems the nice approach didn't go down that well with viewers, who took to Twitter to air their thoughts on what some thought was the "worst" Golden Globes opening monologue ever.

However there were some viewers who appreciated Samberg and Oh's friendly take on what can be a scathing attack on the industry.

On a more serious note, Oh got slightly emotional at the magnitude of being chosen to such a massive event.

"I said yes to the fear of being on this stage tonight because I wanted to be here to look out into this audience and witness this moment of change," she said, addressing the room. "And I'm not fooling myself. Next year could be different. It probably will be. But right now, this moment is real. Trust me -- it's real. Because I see you. And I see you. All these faces of change. And now, so will everyone else."
