Stone Roses bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield dies, aged 63
Stone Roses bassist Gary 'Mani' Mounfield has died. He was 63.
The musician was best known for his role with the English group, but later became a member of the rock band Primal Scream.
His death was announced in a post on Facebook by his brother Greg Mounfield.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce the sad passing of my brother," he wrote in his tribute post.
Greg shared the news with a photo of Mani and his late wife Imelda, who passed away following a cancer battle in 2023. The couple share twin sons.
Mani's nephew also announced the news of his death on social media, posting to X: "My uncle Gary Mani Mounfield from the Stone Roses has sadly passed away today.
"Thinking of his twins and my uncle Greg at this sad time. He will be reunited in heaven with his lovely wife Imelda."

Mani's former bandmates followed his family's lead in sharing tributes to the late star.
The Stone Roses shared a tribute to Mani, sharing a throwback photo of him playing the bass.

"RIP our wonderful brother Mani. The greatest bass player and friend we could ever have wished for," the band wrote.
Meanwhile, the band's lead singer Ian Brown, 62, shared a personal tribute to his own page.
"Rest In Peace Mani," he wrote.
Fellow stars also shared tributes to the late bassist on social media.

New Order and Joy Division star Peter Hook struggled to find the words to express his grief.
"Oh God. Mani… words just fail me this time, they really do. I cannot believe it. Sending all my love to his family. This is so sad. RIP mate. Love Hooky. X," the Manchester music legend wrote.
Another Manchester native and Oasis legend, Liam Gallagher also expressed his heartbreak.
"In total shock and absolutely devastated on hearing the news about Manu, my hero. RIP RKID LG," the Oasis icon wrote.
Meanwhile, former Happy Mondays singer Rowetta wrote: "Back with your Imelda, Mani. Going to miss you so much. All my love to the boys, the family & all those who knew & loved him."
Mani was last seen in public at the funeral of Ricky Hatton at Manchester Cathedral last month.

The Manchester-born musician shot to fame after joining the popular band Stone Roses in the 1980s.
He featured on both of the band's albums before they disbanded in 1996.
He later went on to join the band Primal Scream but returned to the Stone Roses when they reunited in 2011.
