Game of Thrones' opening credits could hold a major plot clue for season seven

You probably zone out during Game of Thrones' opening credits. Or, if you're like me, you loudly hum-sing the music with accompanying dramatic hand gestures.

But had we all been paying more attention to the visuals, we might have noticed what could be a tell-tale clue in last week's season seven premiere opener.

Eagle-eyed fans on Reddit noticed that as the credits panned across the 3D map of Westeros last Monday, a crucial change had been made to the rendering of The Wall.

The season six finale credits showed The Wall surrounded by a body of water, which would prevent the ravenous White Walkers who live to the North from getting around The Wall to attack all of our beloved/loathed Game of Thrones characters.

BUT in the season seven credits, the area around the wall is now covered with sheets of ice – presumably providing a way for the White Walkers to casually stroll around the 700-foot wall that Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and the Night's Watch work so hard to protect.

This detail pairs well with what The Hound (Rory McCann) said during his vision in the flames last week:

"It's where the Wall meets the sea. There's a castle there. There’s a mountain, looks like an arrowhead. The dead are marching past. Thousands of them," he said.

If this is, in fact, the way the White Walkers will finally get around the wall it's…incredibly anti-climactic. But it also fits right in with ever-cooling climate that's been discussed on the show since season one.

Looks like winter really is, finally, here.
