'That's a very difficult thing': Game of Thrones star hits back at series finale backlash
It was the episode of TV that enraged the world.
On May 19, 2019, 19.3 million people around the world sat down to watch the past eight years of their favourite TV series come to an end.
The Game of Thrones series finale was one of the most highly anticipated episodes of television and it quickly became one of the most hated.
Now, one of the series' stars has broken his silence on the backlash.

In the first episode of the series viewers were introduced to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jamie Lannister, as he became one of the longest lasting characters in the show.
In a new interview with The Independent, he says the backlash the finale received was "expected".
Game of Thrones was one of the most popular TV shows of it's time, with millions around the world heavily invested in the fate of the characters.

When the finale aired, fans online were outraged, claiming that it felt far too rushed as several characters met their fate.
A Change.org petition calling for the entirety of season eight to be remade amassed over 1.8 million signatures, and Coster-Waldau said he isn't surprised.
"It was expected," he told the publication.
"How are you ever gonna make an end that's gonna satisfy everyone? That's a very difficult thing."
Even now, fans still discuss the potential of a re-made eighth season, with six years seemingly not enough time to move on from the disappointment of the show coming to a close.
And while Coster-Waldau appreciates the passion of the fans, he thinks that at some point it becomes a bit much.

Coster-Waldau said the backlash didn't come as a surprise. HBO
"I absolutely think people are entitled to whatever opinion they have," he said.
"But it's a television show.
"Someone told you a story and you didn't like the ending. It's really annoying, but…"
