In this TMI age of social media overload and celebrity confessionals, nothing seems to be off limits.

But a '90s TV star is furious about what he considers to be an "egregious" invasion of privacy by a celebrity website.

Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Nicholas Brendon wrote a blistering message on his Facebook page after TMZ posted a video of his apparent suicide attempt in September.

In TMZ's grainy CCTV footage, the 44-year-old is shown staggering out of a bar in Saratoga Springs, New York, and cutting his wrist twice outside on the sidewalk.

Police escorted him to a local hospital, where he was treated and released, but his troubles weren't over. He was arrested a week later for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend.

According to the Saratoga Springs police, the actor grabbed her "by the throat and started chocking her".

It wasn't his first brush with the law. Nicholas, who has been in and out of rehab over the years, had previously been arrested five times in eight months.  In one of those incidents, he was jailed for trashing a hotel room in Florida and demanding an upgrade because he's a "TV star".

Three months later, he stormed out of a TV interview with Dr. Phil after the host's line of questioning got too tough. Watch that moment below.

Later, Nicholas explained his actions on Facebook.

"My illnesses and addictions are a daily struggle for me… I'm the first to admit I've messed up, a lot, and I've hurt people I care about and who care about me," he wrote.

Hopefully, Nicholas will get the help he needs.
