Billy Ray Cyrus' ex-wife, Firerose, has revealed she underwent a double mastectomy to prevent breast cancer.

The Australian singer, 35, shared that she decided to have the surgery when she was diagnosed with the BRCA1 gene, which means she is more susceptible to the disease.

Firerose, whose real name is Johanna Rose Hodges, claimed she had to reschedule her operation, which was scheduled 24 hours before Cyrus filed for divorce.

Taking to Instagram, Firerose shared a snap of herself in a hospital bed alongside the caption: "With God on our side we're stronger than we can even imagine. Thank you so very much for all the prayers. I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love & support 🙏🏼🤍 #previvor #brca #brcaawareness."

The term previvor refers to a person who is a survivor of a predisposition to the disease, usually used to describe someone who has an increased risk of developing cancer.

The operation comes just one month after Cyrus and Firerose settled their divorce, according to documents obtained by People, the country singer cited irreconcilable differences and claims of inappropriate marital conduct.

At the time of filing, Cyrus also requested an annulment on the grounds of fraud; according to People, the singer alleges Firerose spent $US96,986 (approximately $146,815) on unauthorised charges to his business account.

Firerose denied she had engaged in fraud and also claimed she had been granted access to Cyrus' credit cards without a limit on how much she could spend.

In a statement shared with the US Weekly, Cyrus' attorneys said the pair reached a settlement agreement on August 5.

"This past Friday the parties reached a settlement agreement at mediation to dissolve their 7-month marriage, and the Court declared the parties divorced this morning," lawyers Rose Palermo and Jason Talley said.

"Mr. Cyrus is relieved to put this nightmare behind him."

"Further, a couple of weeks ago, prior to mediation, Ms. Hodges legally changed her last name from 'Hodges' to 'Cyrus.'

"Mr. Cyrus feels that this validates his assertion that his ex-wife's sole impetus for marrying him was to obtain his last name."

The duo reportedly knew each other for several years but didn't start dating until August 2022.
