Dwayne Johnson suffers face injury during workout: 'I got lumped up and need stitches'

No surprises that Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, goes hard during his workouts. But the actor went to extremes during one gym session that he was left with a bloodied face.

The former WWE star detailed his injury in an Instagram video earlier today, showing off a nasty gash on the side of his face.

"We ain't playin' tiddlywinks and we ain't reciting nursery rhymes — it's called the #ironparadise for a reason and things get extremely intense," he captioned the video, referencing the home gym in his Miami mansion, known as The Iron Paradise.

"Threw around my 50lb chains [22kg] for a drop set — I got lumped up and need stitches. Taste your blood, keep training and stitch up later — rules of the house. And I can confirm my blood tastes like Teremana, calluses and BlaMoan (Black and Samoan) Hot Sauce.

"Have a productive week, my friends — keep it light and a lil' fun, but get after it like a MF."

In the video, Johnson could be seen rubbing some of his blood on his finger before licking it.

"That's good, that's real good. Back to work," he said in the clip.

It appears Johnson has a bad trot health-wise recently. This new injury comes weeks after he revealed that he, his wife, Lauren Hashian and their daughters Jasmine, four, and Tiana, two, battled coronavirus.

"I could tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family, and for me, too, personally as well. And I've gone through some doozies in the past," he said in an Instagram video posted in early September.

"Testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times… I wish it was only me who tested positive, but it wasn't, it was my entire family, so this one was a real kick in the gut. But I am happy to tell you guys that we as a family are good. We're on the other end of it, we're on the other side. We're no longer contagious, and we are — thank God — we are healthy."
