Drew Barrymore confirms dead grandfather was stolen from morgue by his Hollywood friends for a 'last few rounds'

After many years of speculation, Drew Barrymore has confirmed the body of her dead grandfather was indeed stolen from a morgue for one last hurrah after his death in 1942.

The actress made the recollection during an appearance on the YouTube series Hot Ones when host Sean Evans asked her to debunk a few myths about her life.

Drew was born into an acting family, with her grandfather, the legendary John Barrymore, a big deal in Hollywood. The actor kicked it with the finest, including actor Errol Flynn, poet Sadakichi Hartmann, and comedian WC Fields, who were the ones partied with John one last time.

"They did! And I will say this, I hope my friends do the same for me," Drew said on the program. "That is the kind of spirit I can get behind: just prop the old bag up and have a last few rounds."

Drew said the incident inspired the 1981 comedy starring Julie Andrew titled S.O.B, which was about a dead movie producer who is kidnapped from the funeral home.

The Charlie's Angels star also said she heard whispers the classic 1989 movie Weekend at Bernie's was also based on her grandfather's last adventure. 

If given the chance, 45-year-old Drew said she wouldn't mind one last spin around town with her friends when her time comes. 

"I think death comes with so much morose sadness, and I understand that," she said. "But if it's OK, just with me, if everyone can be really happy and celebratory and have a party, that would be my preference."

John died in 1942 from cirrhosis of the liver and kidney failure. He was 60 years old.
