Dave Hughes responds to backlash after he was caught ‘urinating’ in a cup: ‘I’ll never do it again’
Aussie comedian Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes has spoken out after the backlash he received for “urinating” in another comedian’s glass to avoid a mishap on stage.
The 55-year-old spoke on Nova 96.9’s Ricki-Lee & Tim show this morning admitting that while he’s only done it “a couple of times”, he vowed to “never do it again”.

Kiwi comedian Melanie Bracewell made the shock claim on Monday that Hughesy “peed in one of my glasses I use for stage because he couldn’t go out to the bathroom”.
“He does this regularly and wait staff have to clean it up,” she claimed, bringing up the first time the two comedians met back in 2022 when the incident took place.
Hughesy explained there’s a venue at the Melbourne Comedy Festival that doesn’t have a toilet backstage.
So to use the bathroom, he has to walk through a crowd of 300 audience members.
“You’re a minute to go before showtime. You’ve got to go,” he told the radio show. “So you see a glass and you think ‘Oh god, we have to go in that glass’.”
The comedian explained he was on his own so was “not exposing” himself to anyone.
“So you go in the glass, and then after the show, you grab the glass and you walk it to the toilet,” he went on.

Hughesy admitted that sometimes he’s been caught taking selfies with fans, on the way to the bathroom, holding his glass of urine.
“That’s not a good situation,” he told the hosts.
It wasn’t until after he flushed the contents in the toilet, he was told he used the glass of another performer.

Hughesy revealed he laughed about the situation at the time and had contacted the performer, now revealed to be Bracewell.
“Then you don’t think about it again for four years until it comes up in a comment in someone’s Instagram, and all of a sudden you’re the worst person in the world.
“I’m just trying to get through my life, guys. I’ll never do it again ... I only did it a couple of times.”
