Christina Applegate's daughter Sadie says it's 'hard' seeing her mum struggle with Multiple Sclerosis

Christina Applegate's daughter Sadie has spoken of her experience watching her mother battle Multiple Sclerosis (MS), saying it is was "hard seeing my mum lose a lot of the abilities she used to have in my childhood."

Sadie, 13, joined her mum on podcast MeSsy, which she co-hosts with fellow actress and MS sufferer Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

Applegate, who was diagnosed with the debilitating condition in 2021, began the episode by introducing her daughter and describing her as "the reason I get up in the morning."

Sadie said "it's definitely hard seeing my mum struggle."

"When she got diagnosed, it kind of just felt like...not like everything was over but it was hard seeing my mom lose a lot of the abilities she used to have in my childhood, When I was a kid, we would dance in her room for hours at a time," Sadie said.

Applegate spoke of her guilt at not being able to care for her daughter as she used to.

"I want to make you food. I want to bring it to you. I want to do all the things and I do when I can. And I feel incredibly guilty when I can't," she admitted.

Sadie said while it has been hard to watch her mother struggle it is also "nice being able to help her and support her."

Although the pair recalled a recent incident at a concert they attended when Sadie wanted to push her mum's wheelchair but Applegate didn't want to.

Sadie recalled: "Every time we go to a concert, she always is like, 'You cannot push my wheelchair, Sadie, you're going to run into a wall.'

"And I will beg. I'm just like, 'Please, mom, let me push your wheelchair.' Because I want to help her, so that's definitely why I want to do it, but it's also funny because she's always saying, 'No, I want this person to do it'... and it's never me."

Sadie shared her own health issues, describing the misophonia she suffers from which causes intense, overwhelming emotional and physical reactions to some sounds. For the teenager the worst are "breathing and chewing."

She has also recently been diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) which causes dizziness, fatigue, heart palpitations and headaches.

Sadie said her own health struggles make it "a lot easier to understand what she's [her mother's] going through when I have something I'm going through as well."

Applegate and her daughter share a close bond, with Sadie accompanying her mother during recent public appearances.
